History Made during Bugbuster Championship Doubleheader
10/18/2013by Ed Johnson

Last night, the Bugbusters completed an incredible doubleheader sweep to gain their third Fall League Championship in the last 4 years. The second game was a stunner. Despite 6 official errors, and at least a half dozen mental miscues, the mighty Bugs came back and scored 19 runs in 1+ innings to ‘ten run” Team Spam, 25-15.  But the fans at Central Park in Santa Clara were abuzz after witnessing an historic feat in game one, unbeknownst at the time on the Bugbuster bench.  Brian Soria, who was the upcoming “future face of the franchise” seemingly days ago, is now a grizzled 15 year vet.  But the old vet topped an even older, creakier vet. Brian passed ol’ #6, team founder Harold Soria, to become #3 on the all time runs scored list. And the young Soria did it in style, with an epic 4 bagger against Street Legal, helping the Bugs get to the Championship Game.

Manager Harold Soria, sensing his legacy slipping away, did insert himself into the championship game. But Brian matched his Dad, both scoring 1 run in the championship tilt.  Brian now only trails the Hall of Famer Chuck Chapa, and the temporarily retired Bob Sparacino on the all time list.

After the game, Manager Harold Soria was interviewed on the subject.  Harold commented  “ I am very proud of my son for passing me on the all time runs scored list.  It’s unfortunate that we may not have much playing time available for Brian next year, as I will be playing Left Centerfield.”
