WEDNESDAY 10/3/07 Manager Harold Soria broke out his father/son starting lineup last night, sparking a 7-6 Bugbuster victory. Newest Bugbuster Joe Johnson got a key hit and RBI in his debut game. The Sorias, Rubertes, Chapas, Garzas, and Johnsons all had a father and a son in the starting lineup. Adding in Big Steve Temores at EH (3 for 3, HR, 3 RBI), the new-look Bugbuster starting lineup jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead after 1 inning. But the game evolved into a pitchers duel from there, most likely inspired by Boston Red Sox ace Josh Beckett's 4 hit shutout which finished moments before game time. Manager Soria pitched the first 3 innings, but needed relief help from closer Bob Sparacino, who got the save. Jeremy Palmer and Tom Corral both were needed off the bench to hold off the Chili's comeback. After the game, veteran John Garza Sr. pulled young Joe Johnson aside to impart some of his wisdom. Garza said "You're a Bugbuster now, kid. So there's only three reasons for you not to play. If you have to go to school, or if you have to work, or if your dead."
